Sidh Veer Lal Chand Ji Story
Veer Lal Singh was born on 12th August 1937 in the village of Mandhali, Distt. Mansa. He was middle of three sons born to Harchand Singh (also known as "Kaka") and Har Kaur. He led a normal happy life in the village until the age of eighteen when during his older brother's wedding he met his uncle Dewa Singh.
His uncle owned a Transport business in a Town called Mahwa Mandhawar. It is located on road between Jaipur and Agra, about 60 Km from Bharatpur towards Jaipur. Lal Singh was very keen on driving and pleaded with his uncle to let him go and stay with him and learn the business. He said he would work hard for him and would make the business flourish with his enthusiasm, skill and honesty. After a lot of persuasion his uncle took Lal Singh with him and let him drive the bus. In the following months Lal Singh worked hard and proved what he had said. The business really flourished and made his uncle a very wealthy man.
It was during his stay at Mandhawar that his family in Mandhali received a letter for the proposal of Lal Singh's marriage to Gurdev Kaur from the village of Jhaneer. When his family informed him of the proposed marriage he was overjoyed and asked his uncle to work out what money he was owed for the work he had done. Dewa Singh, knowing how Lal Singh had transformed his business and how much money he had made for him, did not want to part with any of his wealth and especially when Lal Singh had learned the business and had said, he would somehow buy a Bus after the wedding and set up business on his own which would be better and more successful than any one else's.
Dewa Singh was taken aback by the prospect of not only having to part with his money but of possible competition from his relatives. He could not bear to have his relatives being better than him. Quickly he plotted a plan in his mind to keep his money and to stop future competition. The only way he could do this was to snuff the life out of Lal Singh. Dewa Singh concertedly said to Lal Singh. I will come back to Mandhali with you to prepare for your wedding but you don't look well go and lie down in the bedroom and I will get some medicine to make you better. Dewa Singh returned very quickly with the medicine and hurriedly told Lal Singh to take the medicine and he will feel better soon.
Lal Singh took the medicine with the milk and lay down on the bed. The medicine was not to make him well but poison to end Lal Singh's life. His uncle had tricked him into taking the poison and locked the bedroom door behind him. When the poison took hold of Lal Singh and made him realise what had happened, the poison started to rip through his body he cried out for water but his uncle and auntie were determined to end his life. All cries for help and water were ignored, no matter how much Lal Singh pleaded and promised to go away without any money and to forget all that had happened.
Lal Singh prayed to god and smashed his head against the barred windows but there was no one to save him. Lal Singh's life ended eventually and his spirit was promptly taken by the 4 Angels to Dharamraj who asked who he was. The angels told Dharamraj who he was and where he was from. Dharamraj was not happy, as Lal Singh was not expected for another 18 years. Dharamraj ordered that he be taken back promptly and brought back in 18 years time. The angels took Lal Singh back as quickly as possible but his uncle had taken no chances and had made sure he cremated the body while it was still hot.
Lal Singh's hopes of being united with his body were all but gone and asked the Angels to take him back to Dharamraj. At returning to Dharamraj he told his entire story, and asked why this happened to him in the first place, as he had done nothing wrong and he had not been a bad person. Dharamraj said it was the alcohol he had drunk three times in his life, which is what had brought about his misfortunes. After much deliberation Lal Singh was granted 'SIDHI'. He was told to go back and help people, 'all your uttering will come true' he was told. Never do anything wrong, never indulge in any evil doings and always help people in their hour of need. Lal Singh left Dharamraj praising and vowing to him, knowing that he will be able to help people through their lives and teach them meaning of praise and the evils of being ruled by money.
He told his whole story through his Fiancé Gurdev Kaur and this shocked and surprised all the villagers of Jhaneer. His story spread throughout the surrounding villages and to the rest of his family. Lal Singh started to see people in distress and anyone who sought his help. What he said to people came true and more people came to him for help.
One person who came to him for help was a man called Kishore Mal who asked him to cure his leprosy and in return he would build Lal Singh's mander in the village of Mandhali. Kishore Mal was cured within a week but changed his mind about building the Mander, saying 'what can he do now I am cured'. Kishore Mal was a businessman and didn't like wasting money.
One day he had bought a lot of cheap cotton and hoped to make a big profit in the market. He was transporting the cotton in the early hours of the morning on carts when Lal Singh halted all the carts. The bullocks would not move an inch and Kishore Mal was trembling in his shoes. Then came a voice don't hit the bullocks they can't move. The drivers of the carts wondered where the voice was coming from. They asked 'who are you, are you a ghost or a spirit, why have you stopped our carts, tell us what you want'. Lal Singh spoke with anger; 'I will destroy your carts. You promised to build a Mander in Mandhali'. Kishore Mal remembered his pledge and asked for forgiveness, 'I will build it', but said Lal Singh, 'you will have to carry all the bricks on your head, if you will accept'. Kishore Mal alone built the Mander with devotion and speed.
